Brian graduated from Dalhousie Law School in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1988. Prior to law school, Brian attended Saint Francis Xavier University where he earned recognition for academic excellence while pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Economics and was elected to both the University Senate and Board of Governors.
Brian was admitted to the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society in 1989. Brian is a partner with the law firm, MCKIGGAN HEBERT, in downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia. His practice focuses on corporate/commercial law, First Nations law, environmental law and litigation. Brian is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society, the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association, the Canadian Bar Association Aboriginal Law Section (past President of Nova Scotia Branch) and the Advocates' Society. Brian is Chairman of Board of Directors of the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association and L'Arche Halifax. He is Chairman of the APTLA Continuing Legal Education Committee and a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education and technical conferences. Brian has also been a Level 1 basketball coach having coached for a number of years with the ABA Celtics. Brian's first language is English. He also speaks French and whenever possible enjoys attempting Spanish, which is still a work in progress.
